Youths on a pilgrimage to create a network of Peace: Ninth Youth Interfaith Pilgrimage Program of the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
On a mission to learn about each others religious heritage, to explore and contribute to religious peace and tolerance in a multi religious country, a group of young Buddhist friends visited Bangalore as part of Youth Interfaith Pilgrimage program 2012. This pilgrimage has been initiated by the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Delhi with the objective to “provide space for young participants to embrace religious diversity, build cross-cultural understanding and encourage spiritual growth through first-hand exploration of different faith traditions.” (Youth Interfaith Pilgrimage 2012 Brochure). SCMI was privileged to host the team on the 5th and 6th of May and invited them to join in the ongoing National Theological Students’ Conference of Board of Theological Education of Senate of Serampore College on “God of Life: Lead us to Justice and Peace” at United Theological College, Bangalore from 5th and 8th May 2012 with due regard to their wish to understand more of Christianity, learn Church History, Christianity and other religions relations, Christian Text and practices. BTESSC heartitly welcomed them. The presentations and discussions in the conference gave them ample exposure to Christian understanding of Faith in God and its involvement in social realities. The team actively participated, interacted and reflected on the theme and learnt on development of Theological education in India and Christian’s response to the many Indian realities and challenges. On the second day, the co-ordinator Mr. Thupten Tsewang offered a word of thanks and presented sovenier to the conference director and co-ordinator. The team also attended the Sunday Mass at St. Mark’s Cathedral on 6th morning and was greatly impressed with the reading and preaching of the gospel on the importance of fellowship among God’s people and creation, while the singing and the Holy Communion greatly enthralled them to understand Christian way of worship and develop respect for one another. As the team proceeds on their pilgrimage, SCMI wishes them the best and pray that they grow into greater awareness and be champions of religious Peace and Unity wherever they go. SCMI also expresses our thanks to BTESSC for cheerfully receiving the team to the conference.
